New ‘Nightcrawler’ Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Is A Creep With A Camera

Dan Gilroy picked one hell of a story for his directorial debut, and after two trailers I am convinced Nightcrawler will be one of the most talked about films of the fall.

Yesterday, a second trailer for Gilroy’s upcoming film found its way online. It’s the first preview for the October 31 release that has explored the actual plot of the film, and though it still seems to keep a lot at bay the things we are able to witness are nothing short of unsettling. Gyllenhaal is a man at the end of his rope, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to find a way to make it in this crazy, dog eat dog world. Before I tell you the full synopsis, do yourself a favor and watch the following clip without any idea of what to expect:

Pretty messed up, right?

To me, Nightcrawler looks like a mix of Bringing Out The Dead and American Psycho, only with a bigger focus on technology and how it can enable our perversions to flourish. I don’t know if that’s what the final results will produce, but that is definitely the feeling I get from the footage above. The official synopsis reads:

Lou Bloom, an ambitious young man desperate for work, discovers the world of L.A. crime journalism. When Lou learns of a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles his way into the dangerous realm of night crawling, where a police siren wail means a possible windfall, and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Nina, a local TV news veteran, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant.

Nightcrawler opens on Halloween.
